Lu made a plenty of contribution in the mechanical area especially in fluid transmission and control and higher education of engineering. He has 25 patents in Europe, USA and China, has published more than 250 pieces of important scientific research and paper of engineering education, and 5 scientific writings. On the base of the predecessors, Lu creatively proposed the theory of “The force feedback of system flow gauging”, “Direct gauging and feedback of system pressure”, and has put these theories into the application of pilot flow and pressure controlling element. Thus, the traditional theories were changed. His five invention patents have made a remarkable improvement in the steady status and the dynamic controlling accuracy of mass flow and high pressure. He has also made a combination of these theories and the THT technology of Mechanical-electro-hydraulic integration, in order to apply to valve actuator, pump actuator and hydraulic motor, successfully developed a series of new electro-hydraulic controller and system engineering. This technology is considered as one of the magnificent development in the technology of electro-hydraulic controller since 1980s and is listed into the teaching materials in the countries like Japan, German and Sweden. In 1997, Lu received a Rudolph Diesel Golden Prize in German. In 1998, he received a Homburg Medal. In 2000, he was awarded a Star Level Grand-Croix in German. In 2001, he received a Homburg Foundation Werner Heisenberg Prize. In 2003, he received an Italian Presidential Prize for Science. The electro-hydraulic proportional technique which Lu has developed was listed as a project in Torch Program by the State Science and Technology Commission. Lu has also developed the corresponding CAD, CAT supporting systems, which is applied in many industrial departments, and impelled the technical progress of Chinese mechanical industry. These programs have been awarded as Second and Third Prize in National Invention in 1988 and 1989, Top Grade Award in Guanghua Science and Technology Foundation. The Institute Of Fluid power Transmission and Control which was initiated by Lu has built aState Key Laboratory and a mobile postdoctoral center. As a doctorial tutor, he has educated 30 doctors, 25 masters and 5 post-doctors. Contribution to his preeminent achievement in education, he was received a National High Education prize in 1989.
