On October 12, 2025, at 15:00, the College of Mechanical Engineering at Zhejiang University successfully hosted the Forum on Mechanical Science and Engineering Development and the 131st installment of the M.E. Global Seminar Series. The event was held in Hall 328, Building 2, Kaiwu Courtyard, Zijingang Campus.
The forum featured a keynote speech by Wang Guofa, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in coal mining technology, equipment, and intelligent mines. The report session was chaired by Yang Huayong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Engineering Department at Zhejiang University. Faculty and students from the college attended the event and engaged in discussions.
During his presentation, Academician Wang first reviewed the historical significance and contemporary value of the coal industry. He emphasized the urgency and necessity of transforming coal development toward green, safe, and efficient practices within the context of the "Dual Carbon" strategy. He systematically outlined the technological evolution of intelligent mine construction, focusing on recent breakthroughs in digital and intelligent technologies for unmanned coal mining. He also provided an in-depth analysis of the data bottlenecks, algorithmic challenges, and research pathways associated with developing large-scale mine models. Through case studies, he demonstrated innovative applications of AI-powered machine vision in complex underground environments. By integrating current realities with future trends, Academician Wang offered systematic insights and practical directions for the intelligent upgrading of mining equipment, while also highlighting key equipment achievements in the construction of intelligent mines.
