On the morning of December 17, at the invitation of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Zhejiang University, Dr. Shi Yongjiang, a lecturer in the Department of Engineering of the University of Cambridge, and the research director of the Institute of Manufacturing of the University of Cambridge, and the research director of the International Manufacturing Center, led three Cambridge doctoral students, Huang Hanmin, Gao Yibo, and Peng Wan paid a visit to ZJU. Dr. Shi gave a lecture titled Global Manufacturing and China Development on the frontier of industrial engineering. The report was hosted by Professor Tang Renzhong, dean of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Nearly a hundred teachers and students from the college attended the lecture. During the 3 hours of lectures and exchanges, Dr. Shi brought international cutting-edge information on China's manufacturing industry ecosystem.
Dr. Shi Yongjiang first introduced the disciplines, departments and manufacturing research institutes of the University of Cambridge and his research direction; then, he analyzed the changes in China's industrial ecosystem and reviewed the evolution of China's manufacturing industry in the past 35 years. Dr. Shi Yongjiang believes that the existing industrial theories and industrial system models are difficult to adapt to the needs of future development. We must explore new industrialization roads as soon as possible to create a healthier industrial ecosystem.

Dr. Shi Yongjiang also emphatically introduced the IE3 power conceptual framework proposed by the research team. This framework is a preliminary exploration of this new generation of industrial development theoretical system. It is a new model constructed based on three theoretical research fields.
During the lecture, Dr. Shi Yongjiang and his doctoral students had a lively interaction with the teachers and students of Zhejiang University.

In the afternoon, Dr. Shi Yongjiang and some teachers from the School of Mechanical Engineering had a thorough and detailed exchange on the cooperation methods and contents of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Zhejiang University and the Manufacturing Research Institute of Cambridge University. Three doctoral students from the University of Cambridge had academic exchanges with some doctoral and master students from the Institute of Industrial Engineering.
