Prof. Huayong Yang team won the 2019 Science and Technology Innovation Award of China International Industry Fair

On September 17, 2019, the CIIF Award Ceremony of the China International Industry Fair was held in Shanghai. The "TBM Hard Rock Tunnel Boring Machine" project from the team of Academician Yang Huayong of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Zhejiang University won the Science and Technology Innovation Award of the 2019 China International Industry Fair.


China International Industry Fair, as China's most influential international industrial brand exhibition, is the only large-scale industrial fair approved by the State Council with an award function. The 21st China Industry Fair, held this year, launched the CIIF award for the first time. After expert review and social voting, the 10 CIIF awards with the most hard-core strength and social value were nominated.



TBM hard rock tunneling machine


Research Background

The hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) is the equipment with the highest added value of science and technology in the field of tunnel boring, and it is an indispensable major national heavy equipment in major engineering fields such as national railways, water conservancy, and national defense. In the next 10 years, China may need to excavate 20,000 kilometers of tunnels with TBM, accounting for more than 80% of the global market. At the beginning of the project, China's TBM were mostly imported for a long time, and the price of a single TBM was as high as 300 to 500 million yuan. Even if foreign TBMs are used, there are serious problems such as poor geological adaptability and immobility. The project has gone through more than 10 years of joint research on production, education, research and application, has overcome the key technologies of TBM design and manufacturing, solved TBM's "difficult to break rock, difficult to detect, and difficult to perceive" international industry problems, and realized TBM's independent design and manufacturing and industrialized production.

 


Key technology

Long-distance crack arrest and damage-resistant design technology for high-performance TBM cutter head tools;

High-precision detection technology for front disaster sources in complex environments;

Surrounding rock recognition and perception technology based on multi-source big data and multi-algorithm integration and mutual feed.


Engineering application and industrialization

Successfully designed and manufactured China's first 8m-class TBM with independent intellectual property rights, the world's smallest diameter TBM, and the domestic largest diameter TBM "Caiyun", a full range of 3.5-9m diameter TBMs, applied to the Lebanon Greater Beirut Water Supply Project and Asia's first long tunnel, and more than 30 major projects at home and abroad.
