At the invitation of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Zhejiang University, Dr. Chen Jian from Nanyang Technological University gave a lecture entitled "Full wave of acoustic metasurfaces at the deep sub-wavelength scale" in Room 103 of the First Teaching Building of Yuquan Campus Control report meeting. The report was hosted by Professor Yang Keji of the School of Mechanical Engineering. The participants included Professor Xie Jin, the deputy director of the Department of Mechatronics and more than 20 teachers and students from some colleges.

The report will be oriented to the needs of practical applications such as medical ultrasonic non-destructive testing. In view of the existing ultrasonic focus control technology’s tendency to pursue a more complex structure, the machine is complicated and huge and difficult to adapt to the needs of the application. The idea of focusing control of ultrasound on the dimensional plane. Chen Jian elaborated the scheme of using two adjacent channels on a two-dimensional plane to couple acoustic waves, which was verified through experiments, and a quantified model was obtained, which finally realized the control of the acoustic wave focus. The full-wave control scheme of the deep sub-wavelength scale acoustic metasurface realizes the miniaturization of the ultrasonic probe. Through experiments, the focusing module required for the 100KHz sound wave is only the size of a palm, which can be produced by wire cutting of metal plates. The processing technology is very simple. At the end of the report meeting, Chen Jian made a project outlook, and also briefly introduced the work related to the application of laser-induced full-matrix imaging in non-destructive testing. The teachers and students present attentively listened and recorded.

During the question session, Prof. Yang Keji asked questions about the details of the full-wave control of the deep sub-wavelength scale acoustic metasurface and the later parameter optimization and improvement. Dr. Chen Jian gave a detailed answer.
