    Dr. Qingying Qiu is an associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Zhejiang University, China. He received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Design & Theory from Zhejiang University in 1992 and in 2001 respectively. From year 1995 to 1997, Dr. Qiu worked in Zhejiang Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Co. LTD as a mechanical engineer. He is currently a senior member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), a Consultant of CMES Mechanical Design Institution, and a Consultant and deputy secretary-general of Chinese Construction Machinery Society (CCMS) Excavator Division.


    Dr. Qiu’s research interests include innovative design and design optimization. He has served as the director of two projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and published more than forty papers covering innovation method for conceptual design supported by patent knowledge, method for knowledge mining from product patents, modeling and planning strategy for generalized optimization of complex product, etc. Dr. Qiu also put much effort in the practical applications. He and his team have accomplished several projects funded by companies, such as the optimization of hydraulic excavators, innovation design of power tools, and so on. He holds more than ten product patents and five software copyrights in China.
