He has got Bachelor and Master degree in ZhejiangUniversity in 1978 and 1985. In 1989, he got Doctor degree of Engineering in ZhejiangUniversity. From 1985, he worked in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, in ZhejiangUniversity; From 1992 to 1995, he was appointed as the Vice president of the GraduateSchool and Minister of Graduate department of the minister of ZhejiangUniversity. In 1993, he was assigned as doctorial supervisor. From 1995 to 2005, he was assigned as vice secretary of ZhejiangUniversity. From 2005, he was assigned as standing vice secretary and discipline inspection commission secretary of ZhejiangUniversity.


Professor Chen mainly engaged in Digital manufacture and new CNC system design, Precision Engineering, Microsystem and micro-manufacturing technology, Mechanical bionics. In the past 15 years, he has supported by National Science Foundation of China, National 863 Projects, Defense pre-research, Doctoral Fund of Ministry of Education of China, and etc. Professor Chen has won special allowance award by State Department and honored as “Prominent contribution to the doctor's degree gainer of China” by the State Education Commission of China and the Academic Degrees Committee. Chen has got provincial level technology progress for seven times.


He has published over 200 scientific articles, and more than 100 pieces of papers which has been indexed by SCI/EI. Also, he has got more than 20 patents of invention.
