Title and Abstract:
Iterative Feedforward Repetitive Disturbance Rejection with Application to Document Scanners
Abstract:
Repetitive control provides a framework using internal model principle to reject periodic disturbances. For systems that perform iterative tasks with identical initial condition for each trial, we propose an iterative learning control framework with repetitive disturbance rejection based on quadratic optimal zero phase repetitive control. Asymptotic stability and error convergence conditions will be summarized for the proposed approach. The proposed algorithm requires less computation and memory resources that is desirable for embedded implementation. The proposed approach is designed to be an end-of-line and customer- initiated calibration algorithm. As an application example, the proposed algorithm was used to reduce the color registration error due to spatially repetitive disturbance in an off-the-shelf flatbed document scanner. The spatially repetitive disturbance can be attributed to the system dynamics of the stepper motor coupled belt-drive transmission used in the majority of the flatbed document scanners. Experimental results using embedded scanner electronics shows significant reduction in color registration error over an extended period of use.
