Profile

Shijun Wu received his Ph.D. degree from Zhejiang University in 2009. He is currently an associate professor at the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power Transmission and Control, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. His main research interest is the deep-sea equipment technology, including the technology and instrumentations for collecting gas-tight samples from the deep-sea hydrothermal vent and cold seep. He is especially focused on the deep-sea technology for long-term monitoring of the seafloor hydrothermal activities.

Dr. Wu visited the University of Minnesota several times since 2007. He worked in the Earth Science Department, University of Minnesota as a visiting scholar from September 2011 to December 2012. Between December 2007 and January 2008, he joined the cruise of AT15-28 for the investigation of mid-ocean ridge hydrothermal activity in 9°N East Pacific Rise. He participated in one dive with DSV Alvin during this cruise. During the cruise with R/V Roger Revelle and ROV Jason II from July to August 2008, he participated in the measurement of the chemistry of hydrothermal fluids along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. He used the gas-tight samplers deployed by Jason II to collect hydrothermal fluids from several different hydrothermal sites. In March 2014, he participated in the Science Verification Cruise AT26-12 for the newly upgraded DSV Alvin. In July 2014, he joined the cruise AT26-17 for the investigation of hydrothermal activity along Axial Seamount and Main Endeavor Field on Juan de Fuca Ridge. During this cruise, he also dove with DSV Alvin and conducted successful gas-tight fluid sampling and in-situ measurement of the deep-sea hydrothermal fluid.
