美国原味课程教学：Engineering Economy with Application（工程经济学及应用）开课通知

学分确认：工程经济学2学分（选修课学分）+（专业）认识实习1学分，合计3学分

教学方式：全美国式课程教学方式+企业参观认识实习

面向对象：工业工程专业2013级（全体），机械工程2013、机械电子工程2013等工科专业6名（按照报名顺序录取）

报名方式：邮件发至zhongrm@zju.edu.cn，邮件主题：原味课程申请。报名截止时间7月6日，工业工程专业2013级同学通过选课申请，无须报名。

Course Description:

Three hours lecture. Role of engineering economy in engineering practice; principles of economic equivalence; time value of money and discounted cash-flow techniques; analysis of single and multiple investments; comparison of alternatives; capital recovery and tax implications; inflation; public sector analysis; cost estimation; depreciation schedules; break-even point concepts; decision making under uncertainty; risk analysis; introduction to investing in the financial market; basic accounting principles and financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, cost of goods sold statements, and business ratios.

Tentative Course Outline:

Quizzes: The quizzes are closed book and closed notes. You are allowed to bring a formula sheet and a calculator only. No make-up tests will be given regardless of what the excuse is. There will be five short quizzes on the material that is covered in class recently.

Project: A team project will be given in the middle of the term. The project will be about engineering economic analysis for a project for a Knoxville-based company whose manufacturing base is in China. Students from both countries will work together and global concerns need to be addressed during the analysis, such as exchange rate risk, labor cost changes, regulations at different countries.  

Assignments: Assignments will be given about every week. I expect to give about four assignments. Some assignments can be done in groups of two, one American student and one Chinese student.

Field Trips: Multiple field trips will be arranged for students to be exposed to manufacturing, engineering, and culture in China
