From July 19th to 30th, 2021, the summer international workshop for graduate students which is jointly organized by School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University (ME, ZJU) and the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) in Germany was successfully held. The main lecturer of the workshop is Professor Klaus Janschek from the Dresden University of Technology. Associate Professor Xiaocong Zhu from ME, ZJU is responsible for the organization and coordination of this workshop. Fifteen graduate students from the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Oceanography participated in this workshop. In 2 weeks, Professor Janschek gave students a series of special lectures with humorous explanations which covered from fundamental theories of random signal and 2D image processing and culture tourist . The students showed great interests and conducted lively discussions during the workshop.

This workshop is held online through the zoom software. On July 19, the workshop held a class opening ceremony. The students who participated in the workshop introduced themselves in various forms, which showed the active and youthful demeanor of Zhejiang University students. Professor Janschek gave high appreciation for the students' self-introduction.

From July 20th to 24th, Professor Janschek gave a series of lectures on the subject of analysis and modeling of random signals. The main content is the representation of the frequency spectrum of the random signal and the numerical analysis of the random signal using Matlab tool software. Subsequent project assignments allowed students to master relevant application analysis and software operations on the basis of understanding theories. The students reported and displayed the analysis results one by one in the form of academic reports.

From July 26th to 29th, the topic of lectures is the frequency domain analysis method in image processing. The main content is the analysis of the correlation between the Fourier transform of the discrete signal and the two-dimensional image. Similarly, this series of lectures also has accompanying project demonstration assignments. In the demonstration, the students also presented a correct understanding of the theory and proficient operation of the software.

On July 23, Professor Janschek shared how to conduct an excellent scientific presentation. Professor Janschek explained the main points and precautions of scientific presentation from the perspectives of how to prepare, PPT content planning and distribution, and the presentation style for different audiences and display scenarios. In the next several projects, the students gave their presentations according to the instructions of this topic. The students’ presentation were often praised by Professor Janschek, and the students' skills and abilities in scientific presentations were improved through these presentations.

The course on July 30 is the last class of this summer workshop for graduate students. The students presented the German industry, science, culture, music and other fields in groups. The students gained a new understanding of Germany in multiple dimensions during the presentation, which greatly expanded the students' knowledge. Professor Janschek then took the students on a virtual city tour, introducing the city of Saxony, the past and present of the Dresden University of Technology, celebrities in ancient and modern times, folk customs and other aspects. The students were deeply attracted and showed their will of participating in the TUD visit and exchange activities organized by our school if there is an opportunity in the future .

With the online group photo taken on zoom, the summer workshop came to an end. Professor Janschek acknowledged the students for their active participation and praised the students for their positive attitude and excellent problem-solving ability in the four projects. He hoped to come to Hangzhou and communicate with the students face to face when it is possible. Associate Professor Xiaocong Zhu expressed the acknowledgement to Professor Klaus Janschek for his contributions and efforts to this workshop and thanked the students for their active participation.
