To strengthen the academic exchanges between the professors of mechanics and medicine of Zhejiang University, consultation and co-organization by the department of Mechanical Engineering and School of Medicine, the project director of United States nano-manufacturing of Natural Science Foundation ( NSF) Prof. Shaochen Chen was invited to Hangzhou for academic report. The report meeting and the cross seminar of medicine and mechanics of Zhejiang University was held in Yuquan Hotel, Hangzhou on August 24, 2009. The vice president of science and technology institute of Zhejiang University Xia Wenli, party secretary of School of Medicine Prof. Chen Zhi, department of ME Prof. Tan Jianrong, Li Wei, Fu Xin, Yang Canjun, and Ju Bingfeng et al., department of medical science Prof. Yan Weiqi, Bao Jiali, and Fan Shunwu et al. attended the meeting.
Party secretary of ME Prof. Li Wei chaired the meeting. Prof. Shaochen Chen delivered a wonderful academic report entitled "Nanomanufacturing for Medicine and Energy". At the end of the academic report, the party secretary of Department of Mechanical Engineering Professor Li Wei and party secretary of School of Medicine Professor Chen Zhi emphasized the necessity and importance of international cooperation. Subsequently, Professor Shaochen Chen talked about some of the hot research in the field of nano-manufacturing and nano-medical, such as Nano regenerative medicine and so on, and introduced the University of Texas at Austin in machinery and medical research in a number of cross- successful experience. Then, professors from the mechanical and medicine discussed around Shaochen Chen's research direction and research focus, and find a lot of cross-collaboration research directions and points of integration in future, such as cartilage transplantation, artificial joints, prosthetic technology, regenerative medicine, nanotechnology, neural connections, tissue engineering, rehabilitation robotics, etc.
The Medical and Mechanical interdisciplinary seminars and International colloquium provide a platform for mutual exchange of learning for professor of mechanical and medical of the Zhejiang University. The participants said that they would strengthen communication and cooperation and work together to upgrade the overall level of mechanics and medicine in scientific research of Zhejiang University.
